Fit 4 Life

Fit 4 Life incorporates scientifically based, individualized exercise prescription, metabolic testing, education and nutritional counseling in a safe, nonintimidating, fully supervised result-oriented program maximizing health and well-being. The program meets twice a week for eight weeks.  (Times vary from session to session.) Participants are assigned to small groups (two to three people) according to their fitness compatibility. This allows a great deal of individual attention.  Your fitness level, general health, exercise preferences and any injuries will be considered.

Each session will incorporate the following:

  • Resting Metabolic Rate testing
  • Two metabolic exercise tests
  • Eight-week zone-training program
  • Aerobic activities (stationary bike, aqua aerobics, power walking, etc.)
  • Strength training (free weights, resistance circuit equipment, etc.)
  • Stretching and balance work
  • Education (articles, classroom presentations, videos, etc.)
  • Nutritional guidance (individual and group sessions)
  • Testing at both the start and finish of the program to chart physiological benefits

Nutritional component

At the start of the program, you will be asked to fill out a three- to five-day food diary that best represents how you would normally eat. You will meet early in the program with WAC Nutritionist Shana Hopkins to review your diary and pick out areas where you could improve your overall nutritional health. She will then help you decide what you should work on and suggest strategies to achieve your goal. Toward the end of the program, she will check in with you again. If you successfully accomplish your first goal, she may suggest another. If you don't, she can revisit your strategies and help you develop new ones.

Fitness compatibility of the group is key

We pre-test anyone interested in the program to establish his or her baseline. From the first day of class, you join with one or more participants at similar fitness levels. We do this to discourage negative group dynamics (i.e., "I'm the worst" or "I don't want to go back" or "This is too simple for me; I'm wasting my time").

Result-oriented program

Pre- and post-program testing will measure improvements in the following areas:

  • Strength
  • Agility
  • Flexibility
  • Endurance
  • Oxygen-carrying capacity
  • Caloric burn rates

Preparation

This program requires you to fill out a physician's release, which will be included in your registration packet. Also, all potential program participants will meet with the Wellness Manager to complete a metabolic consult and a one-mile timed walk around the track.

Sessions start monthly: $850 ($1,450 value)
