Identify your hidden weak links that may be causing your repetitive injury or inhibiting your mobility, stability or flexibility. Whether it be for the competitive athlete, weekend warrior or the actively aging, an FMS, developed by noted physical therapist and strength coach, Gray Cook, will uncover poor biomechanics in order to determine your unique roadmap to greater movement, coordination and stability.
How long does the screening take?
The FMS takes about 55 minutes.
What specifically does it measure?
Seven separate movement tests examine the mobility, stability, flexibility and coordination of the ankles, knees, hips, shoulder and spine. The tests also assess balance and symmetry between the left and right sides of the body.
What are the 7 tests?
Deep squat, hurdle step, in-line lunge, active straight-leg raise, shoulder mobility, trunk stability push-up, and rotational stability.
What is the scale?
The movements are graded on a scale from 0 to 3 with a maximum total score of 21. A score of 3 indicates the ability to perform the movement correctly. A score of 2 indicates the movement can be performed but with compensation. A score of 1 indicates the inability to perform the movement, and a 0 indicates pain during the movement.
Research shows that scoring less than 14 total increases your susceptibility to injury and should be corrected immediately. All tests scoring a 0 should be referred out to a health care professional.
Is this test specifically for athletes?
No! Athletes can certainly take advantage of the knowledge gained by this type of movement screens, but a FMS can give invaluable insight to anyone who desires balance, strength and unrestricted, pain-free range of motion. We are unaware of the unique compilation of weaknesses that cause us to compensate in ways that unknowingly put our body at high risk for injury if not identified.
Who facilitates the screenings?
Only WAC personal trainers with specific training in the FMS protocol.
What do I do after receiving my score?
Depending the severity of the weaknesses, the trainer will suggest any number of exercises that will specifically improve problem areas. The best action plan is to continue working with a trainer, they will develop a comprehensive fitness program for you, and teach you how to properly execute the exercises - keeping you motivated to achieve your goals.
What is the cost?
$55
