Hawaii Clubs

Goodbye, gray skies. Hello, sunshine!
Three classy clubs on Oahu await you
Reviewed February 2009

Take a break from business as usual and visit one of the WAC's fine Reciprocal Clubs on sunny Oahu island, Hawaii. The Outrigger Canoe Club, the Oahu Country Club and the Pacific Club each offer WAC members ample opportunity to ditch the overcoat, mute the cell phone and forget the frigid Fahrenheit levels at home.

First stop: Surf, sand and pupus
A longtime favorite with WAC members, chances of saying aloha to a recognizable face run high. And the reasons are obvious. The Outrigger Canoe Club graces prime Waikiki real estate at the foot of Diamond Head and offers something for every taste: Rent a board and ride the waves; dig, dive and spike your way through a beach volleyball game; or simply savor a fruity concoction on the Hau Terrace as others expend all that energy. WAC member William Maloney recently spent Thanksgiving there and enjoyed it so much he went back the next night. "The setting on the beach is very beautiful
and relaxing. ...They had very good food and a friendly bar with excellent pupus."

Second stop: "Birdies" of paradise
Golfers rejoice: Thanks to the WAC's reciprocity relationship with the esteemed Oahu Country Club, a prime opportunity to shoot one under on 18 spectacular holes awaits. Tee up for a round on the club's gorgeous course located in lush Nuuanu Valley, just outside the city center, with sweeping views of downtown and the Pacific Ocean beyond. Not a golfer? Not a problem. There are plenty of other reasons to visit. WAC member Jim Clune recently received what could best be described as a hole-in-one welcome: "I had a wonderful lunch with friends in the bar, which I happily worked off with a walk around the club's beautiful grounds. Loren, the General Manager, came out to personally welcome me, and the whole experience captured Hawaii's aloha spirit."

Third stop: Discover royal grounds
Spend a few hours hanging out on royal territory at the 143-year-old Pacific Club where Princess Kaiulani, heiress to the throne of the kingdom of Hawaii, was born. The red carpet treatment continues today with exceptional dining, including an extensive wine list, versatile meeting rooms, a private pool and tennis courts - all accompanied by
a warm and gracious staff. While none of the above clubs offer overnight rooms, the Pacific Club has established special agreements with nearby hotels and can pass on terrific savings to WAC members. Contact WAC Member Services for more information.
