Reciprocal Clubs
Reciprocal Club LibraryLocated in 9th Floor Member Services The WAC has entered into formal agreement with more than 200 clubs worldwide. These clubs will extend access and courtesy to WAC members, as will the WAC to reciprocal members who visit us. Each of these fine establishments is comparable to the WAC in service excellence and may offer athletic, health and spa services, as well as dining or overnight accommodations. Club policies vary regarding service fees, the number of days a member may visit and restrictions for residents. For full descriptions, club reviews, brochures and photographs, visit our Reciprocal Club Library. The reciprocal agreement requires that each club receive a formal letter of member introduction (the introductory card) prior to member visits. If a member wishes overnight accommodations or special dining reservations, they must directly contact the club they will be visiting once the introduction is made. Payments will also be handled directly between member and club; they cannot be billed to your WAC number. WAC members over age 21 may make reciprocal club requests. Planning your trip
Once the introductory card is ready, we can mail or fax it to you or the designated reciprocal club, or you can pick it up in WAC Member Services. Present the introductory card at check-in or when registering at the designated reciprocal club. Many clubs will also ask for a valid WAC membership card, so be sure to bring yours. Featured club of the month:The Detroit Athletic Club Stop your engines Like a fine-tuned American classic car, the Detroit Athletic Club represents the perfect marriage of classic lines and modern function. Originally founded in 1887 by a group of privileged individuals devoted to amateur athletics, the Club was repositioned (both figuratively and literally) in 1913. That's when a group of automotive industry leaders saved the club from financial dissolve and developed the architectural masterpiece gracing downtown Madison Avenue today. The car leaders left their mark: Not only can WAC members fill their tanks onsite, but they can also do as Detroiters do and top it off (pun intended!) with a wash and detail job. Or not-the Detroit Athletic Club is conveniently located in the heart of downtown, within walking distance of several theaters, sports complexes and places to shop, so a car isn't necessary. Autos aside, athletics are still front and center at this fine club: 14 glass-encased squash/handball/racquetball courts, a massive basketball gymnasium with views of Comerica Park (catch a Tigers game here!), the country's largest private club bowling league and a 25-yard swimming pool underscore the Club's commitment to athletics. WAC baseball fans will particularly appreciate the DAC's connections to Detroit baseball history. Eight of the team's 10 past owners are active DAC members, including current owner Mike Ilitch (read more about him in the WAC's Reciprocal Resource Center). If your visit is all business, the DAC offers 28 elegantly appointed overnight rooms, casual to formal dining, a business center, an onsite tailor (for that ill-fitting suit that inadvertently got packed) and, most importantly, an iconic local address to impress Detroit clients who are in-the-know. With everything you could possibly need during your stay in Motor City, this club is definitely the luxury model.
