9 St. Stephen's GreenDublin 2 Ireland 011.353.1677.4744 phone | 011.353.1677.4202 fax Reviewed March 2007Follow the rainbow to this pot o' gold located on the most famous of the Dublin squares. The Stephen's Green Hibernian Club is an architectural gem, originally founded in 1840 as the Union Club. The magnificent exterior of this mansion hints at its well-maintained historical interior. In the early 18th century, the famous Lafranchini brothers from Switzerland designed the rococo insides. Generations of club members have made it a priority to preserve the aesthetic and historical value of the Lafranchinis' work. Sports and lively debate have always been, and will remain, the intangible foundations of the club. And what a setting for it—a massive renovation recently restored the club's interior to its former elegance and glory. All 12 guestrooms were refurbished, a lift installed, a second snooker room added, and all public areas redecorated. The Stephen's Green Hibernian Club also prides itself on providing attentive personal service, understanding the needs of guests and creating a warm welcome for all who travel to the Emerald Isle.
