The quietly elegant Arlington Club has several surprises in store for WAC visitors. For starters, you can't tell from the hotel rate sheet that you'll sleep like a king for well south of $200. My room was one of four large suites, complete with a separate living and dining room, walk-in closet and huge fireplace.

Even the meeting rooms are far from ordinary. Take the Cycling Room, with memorabilia, such as Tour de France legend Lance Armstrong's yellow jersey, modern and vintage Tour de France bikes and a vintage 1947 Harley Davidson motorcycle.

Don't miss the other themed rooms, like the Aviators' Room, before settling into one of the comfortable leather sofas in the library where more than 4,000 books line the shelves. Homesick? A fresh copy of WAC Magazine was front and center on the table when we visited.

Highlights:

• 10 overnight rooms (four suites) with complimentary high-speed Internet, weekend continental breakfast, coffee and daily newspaper
• Themed meeting rooms, such as the Aviators' Room, Golf Champions Room and Chart Room
• Bar, casual and fine dining, room service, catering
• Parking available at a nearby pay lot
