The Pacific Northwest’s must-play handball tournament
January is handball month at the Washington Athletic Club. Registrations start rolling in weeks in advance from every corner of the Pacific Northwest for what is a “must-play” event on the handball tournament circuit.
It’s a tightly scheduled three-day tournament of truly intense competition. From Friday through Sunday, all six WAC courts are live with tournament play every minute of the day. On-deck start times are based on normal expectations for the two-games-plus-tie-breaker (if needed) matches, but on this weekend the level of determination always climbs several notches. This time, nobody wants to give up points, so matches inevitably run long. Each day’s play starts absolutely on time, but seldom do things finish much before midnight. And then winners of matches in every bracket have to be ready to play again just a few hours later.
Tournament registration will begin in late November on www.r2sports.com.
