Dr. James Weber
A weight loss, cancer, and general surgeon for three decades, Dr. Weber now serves as an Associate Clinical Professor at the University of Washington. His clinical faculty appointment, formerly with the Department of Surgery, is now with the School of Nursing.
Dr. Weber graduated from Yale University with honors in English literature, focusing on the works of Herman Melville. He received his medical degree from Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons. His surgery training was done at the University of Washington. He is board certified in general surgery, a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a member of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery.
Dr. Weber closed his surgery practice in 2008 in order to devote the rest of his professional career to the teaching of yoga and providing yoga therapy. He was trained as a yoga instructor by Catherine Munro, of YogaWorks, and is certified through the Yoga Alliance. He has become especially interested in yoga therapy for specific medical conditions and is a member of the International Association of Yoga therapists. He is also a certified counselor in Ayurvedic medicine (the traditional medicine of India), having completed 500 hours of training through the Kerala Ayurveda Academy.
Dr. Weber recently co-authored “The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Modern Manners, Fast Track,” making him arguably the most polite surgeon and yoga teacher on the planet!
