Family matters: Peters Mathews

Meet a WAC family!

Joseph and Brandon Peters-Mathews work in very different fields, both considered “essential.” While Brandon, a sleep physician at Virginia Mason, shifted to seeing patients via telemedicine during spring and summer, Joseph, vicar of St. Hilda St. Patrick Episcopal Church in Edmonds, sought ways to lead his congregation digitally. The two dads also balanced raising their young son, Topher, during the emergence of COVID-19. “It took time to find a new routine,” Joseph says. “We embraced some new habits and revisited some old ones.” Joseph and Brandon originally joined the WAC for fitness. “We were looking for a gym close to where we lived at the time, and the WAC was perfect,” Brandon says. They’ve attended various WAC social events, including a weekend trip to Walla Walla. The fun continues with Topher. “We’ve really enjoyed participating in WAC events as a family,” Joseph says. When Topher was just 11 days old, they brought him to the WAC’s annual Halloween Spectacular. The family dressed as Pokémon characters Ditto, Lt. Surge and Brock. “That’s definitely one of our top family memories at the WAC so far,” Joseph says.
