Fun awaits with Club Programs
Help plan great events as a committee volunteer
Born and raised in the Seattle area, I visited the WAC many times with friends to work out and enjoy the fitness facilities. Back then, I always saw the WAC as a gym. A great gym! But a gym, nonetheless. It wasn’t until after I learned about the social events and activities the WAC offered that I made the decision to join.
I’ve always been a social person, and the WAC helped expand my life in the city following my time at Seattle University. Some of my best friends today are people I met at the Club. During my 11 years of membership thus far, I have enjoyed so many great WAC events—from a class on cheese-making to a weekend of wine tasting in Walla Walla. And that’s just the beginning!
Taking the step from attending WAC events to helping plan them is really quite easy. All you need to do is volunteer for one of the Club’s five event planning committees. I started on the 20s/30s Committee and eventually joined the Program Board, which oversees the five committees that make up the Club Programs structure.
My current favorite event is the yearly weekend trip. Over the past few years, we have visited Oregon; Vancouver, British Columbia; and Walla Walla. This year, we’re going to Los Angeles!
I have greatly enjoyed my time as Program Board Chair, and I look forward to the 2020–2021 leadership of incoming Chair Landry Christofferson. Thank you to everyone on the Program Board and the planning committees for their time and efforts to bring great ideas to life for WAC members. Thank you also to Club Programs team members Robert Laurent, Mary Ellen Jilek, and Robinette Holt for all they do to make these wonderful events happen.
I hope you’ll peruse the committee descriptions and join the fun this coming year!
