Life at home: Gary Duvall
Keeping fit and giving back
By Gary Duvall
While at home I am keeping fit with Michelle Fogg’s twice-weekly online spin class. This is my high-intensity cardio for the week, and my watts are higher than if I try to do this alone or with other formats. Michelle has contagiously high energy and the class is very social. I like reconnecting with my WAC spinning companions online. I have many friends from over 40 years of belonging to the WAC.
I’m also exercising my mind through online French classes. I had been meaning to take them, and the pandemic gave me the incentive to start. I have made some great online friends through the courses.
I am also the president of the Lake Cavanaugh Community Association. We have created many COVID-friendly services, such as grocery delivery, mask donations to the Sauk-Suiattle health clinic, and modified events to comply with state rules. I am pictured, above, with Kilee McConnaughy of the Sauk-Suiattle Health and Social Services Department. We are wearing the masks we designed and donated!
I always wear a mask when I am in possible close contact with others outside my household. As a result I don’t have to shave as often or use as much sunscreen! But I do look forward to getting a good haircut at the WAC soon.
As a member of my 50th high school reunion committee, I am also busy planning a virtual reunion. I also get to see friends (from a distance) while biking on low-traffic streets and while paddleboarding. And I stay connected with my family through frequent family Zoom meetings!
