Membership All-Star: Bill Smead
Meet one of the Club’s biggest supporters
Born and raised in Washougal, Bill Smead moved east after high school to pursue an economics degree at Walla Walla’s Whitman College. After graduating in 1980, Bill moved to Seattle, where he began his career in investment advising. Bill joined the WAC five years later at the urging of his colleagues. He has since founded Smead Capital Management, which sponsors the initiation fee for employees who want to join the WAC. When Bill is in town—his company also has offices in London—he works out regularly on the 5th Floor. “The WAC is my oasis and my fraternity,” he says. He recalls meeting Dan Evans, former U.S. senator and Washington governor, at the Club. “Things like that happen all the time at the WAC,” Bill says.
