Rugby partnership kicks off 2020 season

This year’s WAC rugby jerseys will have a new look. The men’s and women’s 7s teams will be representing the WAC and new partner Alliant Insurance Services Inc., a leading provider of risk management, employee benefits consulting, and insurance brokerage services.

“This is a very exciting partnership for us,” says Steve DiPietro, managing director of Alliant Employee Benefits in Seattle. “Rugby is one of the fastest-growing sports in the United States. Likewise, Alliant is one of the fastest-growing insurance companies in the country.”

The new partnership commenced on January 1 with the Alliant logo appearing on WAC rugby jerseys. The WAC men’s 7s team enters the 2020 season as defending national club champions. The women’s 7s team finished last season as plate champions, taking fifth place at the national tournament, and also looks to continue its high level of performance.

“We’ve enjoyed a tremendous amount of success since implementing a rugby program here at the WAC,” says Wayne Milner, WAC Senior Vice President Athletics, Special Projects & Community Partners. “It takes the hard work and dedication of our coaches and players, as well as partners with great vision, such as Alliant, to continue to grow the game of rugby and help our teams become the absolute best.”

The 2020 club rugby season begins in June.
