Rugby’s shining stars

Collegiate Rugby Awards.

Two of college rugby’s brightest stars stepped off the turf and into the ballroom at the WAC in June. Ilona Maher of Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut, and Bryce Campbell of Indiana University took center stage at the second annual Sorensen & Scholz Collegiate Rugby Player of the Year awards.

The Maryanne Sorensen Award goes to the best female Division I collegiate player in the nation, and the Rudy Scholz Award honors the best male Division I player. College players around the country and a panel of coaches and media vote on both awards.

The Washington Athletic Club is home to the Sorensen & Scholz awards, delivered in conjunction with the Goff Rugby Report. The awards ceremony took place in front of a full house at a dinner reception in the Crystal Ballroom. Former USA National Team Captain Ines Rodriguez served as guest speaker.
