Integrative Therapies

Integrative therapies are a proactive way to gain better health and function. For added convenience, we accept insurance for Physical Therapy and Naturopathic Medicine programs.

The National Institutes of Health recognizes acupuncture as effective in treating more than 40 conditions. Treatments both reduce pain and increase the circulation of energy or “qi” to create better health-they build and restore the body to optimal health. Back pain, neck pain, sciatica, migraines, asthma and colitis are a few commonly treated illnesses. Acupuncture is great for reducing stress and regaining a sense of balance and tranquility.

  • Thursdays: 8-10 am; $115/hour; One full business day cancellation required; Cash or check accepted.

Active Isolated Stretching (AIS)

AIS provides effective, dynamic, facilitated stretching of major muscle groups. More important, AIS provides functional and physiological restoration of superficial and deep fascial planes. Using a two-second stretch has proven to be the key in avoiding reflexive contraction of the antagonistic muscle. Without activating muscle-group contraction, restoration of full range of motion and flexibility can be achieved successfully.

  • Tuesdays and Wednesdays: By Appointment only. $70/hr. $40/ 30 minutes.

Biofeedback teaches us how to regulate our nervous system’s activity and other physiological processes. It is an effective tool in alleviating the symptoms commonly caused by or influenced by stress. Biofeedback is used for tension headaches, high blood pressure, sleep disturbance, digestion issues, TMJ and all manner of conditions created or made worse by anxiety. During a biofeedback session, sensitive biomedical equipment measures internal body functions (heart rhythms, breath patterns, sweat gland activity, skin temperature and muscle tension). The unique physical changes measured during stress are then used as the roadmap for the training to promote relaxation. Through biofeedback training we can learn to consciously manage the processes that influence stress and relaxation, and to establish long-term self-regulation—a useful tool to build and protect our health in today’s “fight or flight” society.

Playing sports, exercising vigorously, poor biomechanics, underlying medical conditions, and the wrong footwear can all lead to injuries of feet, ankles, and related leg structures. Virginia Mason Medical Center podiatric physicians are available in the Wellness Center to address your foot and ankle issues. Members may seek assistance with gait analysis, orthotics evaluations and castings. Because your feet and ankles serve as the foundation for your entire body, the importance of correcting problems in these areas cannot be overstated.

Rolfing® Structural Integration

This hands-on manipulation of the connective tissue was developed 50 years ago. People seek Rolfing to ease pain and discomfort from many different causes including back pain, repetitive motion injury, trauma and aging. It also relieves stress and improves performance in professional and daily activities. Rolfing uses mild, direct pressure to release holdings of fascia, the body’s internal system of flexible support that surrounds every muscle fiber, encases all joints and has a role in the nervous system. The slow, deep strokes stimulate sensory neurons of the muscle nerve, triggering the nervous system to reduce tension. Thus, the body finds health through the re-establishment of balance. Studies show that Rolfing creates a more efficient use of the muscles, allows the body to conserve energy, and creates more economical and refined patterns of movement. Rolfing significantly improves alignment and enhances neurological function.

Vitamin B12 Shots

Feeling fatigued? Not sleeping well? Stressed? Noticing symptoms of irritability, lack of drive, reduced exercise capacity, fuzzy thinking or tingling in your hands or feet? All these symptoms could be caused by a vitamin B12 deficiency. Regular use of heartburn medications, certain anti-diabetic medications, antibiotics and a vegetarian diet can increase a vitamin B12 deficiency, as can the aging process. In addition, for those taking antidepressants, researchers have found better results from medication with concurrent vitamin B12 shots.

  • Tuesdays: 3–7 pm; $50 initial visit/$25 subsequent visits; Appointments suggested, walk-ins as available; One full business day cancellation required
